Designer Spotlight: Bibzees

The idea for Bibzees was born when Beth Powell gave birth to her son in January 2007. Pleasantly surprised at how far boy’s fashion had come along, she enjoyed dressing her little man in vintage washed jeans, camouflage cargos, and graphic tees. The problem was after 15 minutes his shirt was soaked from spit and drool. Like many moms, she decided it was easier to have him wear a bib than to change his clothes every few hours. Even though her little boy had many trendy bibs – none of them seemed to match the outfits he wore. That’s when the idea for Bibzees made sense.


Bibzees are 3-piece sets that include a bodysuit and two bibs where the cool graphics are on the bib instead of hidden beneath. Each set comes with two bibs so when spit up and drool happens, you switch out the bib instead of changing an entire outfit.

Skater turned Mommy, Natasha Levin, is the name behind the innovative and edgy clothing line called Micro Me (also known as M2). Prior to launching Micro Me Clothing, Natasha spent ten years as a graphic artist in the skate & snow industries working for top companies such as Vans, Burton, and Hurley. The birth of her son inspired Natasha to transition into designing skate influenced infant/toddler clothing, leading to the establishment of Micro Me in 2004.


Even though the line represents the skate/snow/punk-rock lifestyle – Micro Me has a conscience. The company’s tagline says it all “Core (But Never Crass) ‘Lil Threads for the Next Gen”. Australian-based label, Black Eyed Susie, is one of our recent discoveries in the wonderful world of Etsy shops. The girls clothing line began when designer Susan Dryburgh began sewing beautiful pieces out of love for her daughter Chloe. People began to take notice of her unique vintage fabrics and retro-styling…and thus Black Eyed Susie was born.


What is most appealing about the clothing line is its strong contrast from the pink frilliness of typical little girls clothing. Using simple garments as a backdrop, the vibrant vintage fabrics are able to stand out and shine. Each piece of clothing is hand cut and machine sewn by Susan herself to produce one-of-a-kind items you won’t see on other children.


Black Eyed Susie is always coming out with new styles and vintage fabrics, but a favorite among customers in recent months has been the collection of gorgeous A-line polka dot dresses inspired by1930’s fashion. The comfortable and hardwearing denim dresses particularly caught our eye – where bold, retro-inspired floral fabrics really pop against a dark denim silhouette.
